Because of the horse influenza has been found in dogs in the United States the dogs arriving to Iceland have to be tested and the blood sample from the dogs is sent to Sweden.
The horse influenza has been detected in Europe too and therefore not not thougt to be only in the United States.
Customs If the owner has owned the pet for less than 12 months he must pay duty/VAT of the purchase price of the animal when importing it to Iceland.
The owner is obliged to submit customs report in customs, including the invoices in which has to have the details of the name and home of the seller and buyer; place and date; when the sale took place and terms of payment.
Quarantine staff is not allowed to hand over animals from the quarantine station until the duty has been paid. For more information contact the district commissioner at Keflavík at 425-0666 to arrange payment.
